Rumour mill – iPhone 5 to get a 4-inch screen

15 Feb 2011

The Apple iPhone 5 has been on the radar for a while now, and while many attempts have been made to grab headlines and dethrone the all-conquering king of smartphones at MWC, the time of more iPhone 5 speculation is upon us. Reports from Taiwanese gossipmongers DigiTimes suggest Apple is upgrading the screen estate of its 5th-gen iPhone to 4-inches.

According to the chatter, the increased screen size is Apple's attempt to square up to big-screen Android models from the likes of Samsung, HTC and Acer.

With rumours of an iPhone Nano doing the rounds, the decision to boost the iPhone 5's screen size certainly makes sense. More importantly, the iPhone 4's razor-sharp retina display is the most stunning we've seen on a phone – a bigger screen on the iPhone 5 will just give us more reason to drool.

if they can get a 4in screen in the same (or only slightly bigger) body by reducing the space at the top and bottom that would be awesome - I don't really want a bigger handset ...

Exactly, the HTC Desire HD and the Samsung Ominia 7 and Galaxy S are too big imo. I would forgive them a few mils but no more the phone is as close to perfect size as any. Maybe 33% thinner tho? would be nice eh or would that be too much....
