Skype readies iPad video calling app

27 Jun 2011

Put yourself in Microsoft’s shoes – you’ve just spent US$8.5bn on Skype, the world’s biggest VoIP platform. What next? Well, apparently the answer is to go after your arch nemesis’ video calling upstart. That’s why Skype is readying an iPad app that will challenge Apple’s native FaceTime software.

According to a video inadvertently leaked by Skype it’ll support camera switching, full-screen video and 3G calling (with a disclaimer that quality may vary according to connection speed). It’s going through the approval process now, so we’d expect a ping to come through on our desktop Skype with the official announcement any minute now.

Doesn't it already have a video calling app? Skype on iPhone allows video calling over 3G. Doesn't it do the same (or isn't it available) on iPad?
