Sphero 2.0 is better, smarter, faster, brighter

The smartphone-controlled ball gets a new sibling, and it's got plenty of tricks to keep the fun rolling

The original smartphone-controlled Sphero won Stuff over with its multicoloured rolling shenanigans.

It’s a gadget that firmly falls into the ‘this doesn’t need to exists but we’re glad it does’ category, which is why we’re happy to see that Sphero 2.0 has been announced.

Keep Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’

Sphero 2.0 is better, smarter, faster, brighter

Sphero 2.0 comes with a host of improvements – it can now roll along at a blistering seven feet per second, which, we’re told, is only slightly slower than a Lamborghini. Yikes.

Not only that, but its coloured LEDs (which serve up 16.9 million hues) are now three times brighter than the original’s. Squirrels will be hypnotised in broad daylight before they’ll have a chance to know what flattened them.

Sphero 2.0 has more than 25 games on the App Store and Google Play, and comes with an inductive charging base and pop-out ramps for catching some sweet spherical air.

Bumpy plastic Nubby covers are also available if you want to take the fun off-road without scratching the Sphero 2.0 to shreds. Roll on.
