The skies above and below will teem with aerial robot servants carrying laundry, packages and pizza, watering the vertical farms, broadcasting messages, checking for air pollution. Anything humans can’t be bothered to do (and let’s face it, who can be bothered when it’s a 20-minute lift ride to street level?), drones will do for us.
But that’s way, way in the future, right? Not right. Drones are already buzzing the skies in increasing numbers, and there’s no better beginner’s course in piloting the little scamps than Parrot’s MiniDrones.
The Rolling Spider is one of the most user-friendly quadcopters in the business: fast and stable, it’s perfect for indoor flight, the removable wheels let it walk up walls and drive along ceilings, and a single swipe of click in the FreeFlight 3 app allows for a controlled spin or a loop. The Jumping Sumo, on the other hand, is a robotic acrobat that rolls, balances, flips and jumps up to 80cm off the ground, but always lands with catlike poise.
