It's all been a bit quiet from the Slingbox boys lately, but it seems it was just the calm before the storm. Announced today is not one, but two new telly chuckers, the Solo (pictured) and the pricier Pro.Both get HD compatibility (that's in, not out) and will now sling at up to 8Mbps over a home network for extra-high quality – though don't expect the same throughput when viewing over the interweb. We're digging the glossy, piano-black finish of the Solo, but the Pro's gone for a quirkier red chassis, covered in a frosted Perspex look which doesn't go quite so well with our LG/Samsung/Sony all-black home cinema rigs.As well as the alternative styling, the Pro has built-in Freeview, accepts inputs from up to three sources, rather than just one, and has HDMI. Both will happily control your Sky, Virgin Media or Tiscali box from afar – though there's no mention of BT.As if that wasn’t enough, also announced today is the first release of the free SlingPlayer Mobile, which has until now been the preserve of users on 3's X-Series tariffs. The software works on Pocket PC, Windows Mobile and Series 60 handsets for catching The Rugby World Cup, Heroes or Dog the Bounty Hunter on the fly. Just make sure you're on an unlimited data plan, though, or that half hour of bounty hunting could get pretty costly.EssentialsSling Media Slingbox Solo, Slingbox ProPrice: £130, £200On sale: Now Contact: Sling MediaRelated links:SlingPlayer Mobile downloadRelated stories:Sling your heart out for the MacNow Slingbox comes to your mobileReviewed: Sling Media Slingbox
