Roku 1,2 and 3 add iPlayer and NowTV to your goggle box

The Roku 3 set-top box and two new other models are bringing iPlayer and Now TV goodness to televisions in the UK

If you want access to a lot more channels on your television, but dislike lengthy contracts, Roku has your back.

The Roku 3 set-top box is making the trip from the US to the UK, the company has announced, bringing with it the promise of iPlayer and NowTV as well as apps like DropBox, Netflix and Flixster and even mobile gaming, although the game library looks somewhat limited at the moment.

The Roku 3 has an ethernet port plus a dual core processor, and a motion-sensitive remote control for playing games like Angry Birds on your telly.

Roku has also announced two other new models, the 1 and 2. The 1 is the most basic model and comes with a single core processor and 1 by 1 Wi-Fi, while the slightly pricier Roku 2 ups its game to 2 by 2 WiFi and has a headphone socket in the remote for when you want to watch TV in silence.

All devices support full 1080p playback.

The Roku 1, 2 and 3 cost £59, £79 and £99, respectively. All models will go on sale next week on Roku’s website or from the likes of Amazon UK, but you can pre-order the Roku 1 and 2 today if you so desire.

It’s worth pointing out that Sky Now TV box, which costs a measly £10, is based on a previous-gen Roku box – whether spending at least another £49 on an own-brand Roku is worth it remains to be seen.
