Alien: Isolation – finally, an Alien game worthy of the name?

Terrifying trailer for upcoming title shows the focus will be on horror, not action

Finally, it seems the world might be getting an Alien game the film franchise deserves.

Today, The Creative Assembly (best known for the Total War series of PC strategy games) revealed the first trailer for Alien: Isolation – and it’s incredibly encouraging. Yes, this could be the title that forever banishes the bad taste in the mouth left by Aliens: Colonial Marines, the disastrous FPS released last year.

Hunted by a bug

Where Colonial Marines was a shabby-looking, by-the-numbers shooter, Isolation is a survival horror game heavy on atmosphere. Set between the original Alien movie and Aliens, it puts you in the shoes of Ellen Ripley’s daughter Amanda, a member of a team investigating just what happened on the Nostromo.

Rather than hordes of aliens running at you, the game apparently features just one. But because you’re largely unarmed, you’ll need all your wits about you just to survive an encounter with it. Basically, this game is bringing back the terror of the largely unseen, near-invincible xenomorph that we saw in the first movie.

The game will be available on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, with Sega and The Creative Assembly aiming for a winter 2014 release.
