The Amazon Fire HD 10 just got a whole lot more desirable

It's a metal marvel - and with more storage to boot

The HD 10 might be Amazon’s top-spec Fire tablet, but you wouldn’t know it to look at it – unless you associate “plastic” with “fantastic”.

It’s safe to say we weren’t blown away by it back in October, but Amazon’s made a few tweaks that might give us a reason to take another look. Swapping that cheap-feeling plastic shell for a shiny silver aluminium one is definitely a step in the right direction.

You don’t have to shell out more cash to make the upgrade, either; the metal model costs the same as the black and white plastic originals.

Storage has been given a boost too, so you now get to choose between 16GB, 32GB and 64GB tablets. Perfect for caching all those Amazon Prime TV shows and movies for offline watching on the morning commute.

Inside, things pretty much stay the same, so you can expect a 10.1in, 1280×800 resolution screen, quad-core CPU and 1GB of RAM. Hardly blazing fast, or eye-wateringly sharp, but it’s not bad given the price.

Battery life stays the same at around eight hours, and you still get a lowly 5MP camera on the back for grainy photos that you’ll only look back on with regret, wishing you’d used your smartphone’s superior snapper to capture them instead.

The basic 16GB tablet will set you back £170, or £180 without "special offers" on the lock screen, and prices hit £240 for the top-end 64GB slate. They’re shipping now, so if you want some silver in your life, click that add to basket button.
