Samsung unleashes YP-U4 and Q1 MP3 players

Samsung certainly hasn’t been resting on its lederhosen at this year’s IFA show. Not content with giving a MacBook Air-baiting laptop, a couple of tasty camcorders and new Blu-ray goodies, the Korean wunderkind has announced two new Apple-baiting MP3 players.

First up is the follow-up to the YP-U3 is the Shuffle-like YP-U4. It looks like the U4 has been given the Trinny and Susannah treatment, as it now sashays onto the market in rose, purple and blue hues.

There’s also DNSe 2.0 sound technology, a teeny OLED screen and FM radio, as well as support for everyone’s favourite lossless audio format, Ogg Vorbis. Available in 2GB or 4GB flavours, the U4 will be on the shelves later this month.

You’ll have to wait until October, however, for “the world’s best sound quality” from the Q1 “Diamond”. Sammy claim that it’ll deliver the audio business thanks to the DNSe 3.0 sound technology and an audio upscale function to correct missing sound range. It’ll also scan your tunes by genre and mood and make automatic EQ alteration. Clever little chap.

There’s also video playback, a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD display and a claimed 30 hours of music playback. The Q1 is available in the traditional black, white and silver options and 4GB, 8GB and 16GB memory flavours.
