Apple Watch Strap

I couldn’t live without my fitness tracker. I’m a stat fiend, keeping an ever-watchful eye on my daily steps and calories burned, in an attempt to fend off the incessant decay of time.

Trouble is, I also love watches, but ever since my fitness obsession began, my trusty collection of traditional timepieces has been relegated to a drawer. Sometimes, late at night, I can hear their woeful ticks echoing through the ether, crying out for daylight.

Enter the Smartlet One – a product that attempts to solve that dilemma in a rather unusual way. Instead of choosing between your traditional watch and your connected gadget, it lets you wear both at the same time – on the same wrist.

The idea is simple, if a little unconventional. In essence, it’s a modular link watch strap that mounts a normal watch on the top of your wrist, exactly where it would usually sit, while a smartwatch or fitness tracker sits underneath your wrist where the clasp would normally be.

That means your favourite mechanical timepiece stays visible, while something like an Apple Watch or fitness tracker quietly handles notifications, health tracking, or workouts on the underside.

Smartlet says the system is designed to work with most traditional watches with lug widths between 18mm and 24mm. On the connected side, there are optional connectors for devices like the Apple Watch, Whoop MG and Whoop 5.0, along with the Fitbit Charge 5 and 6.

The strap itself uses a modular construction with multiple push-button clasps that act as connection points for different end pieces. Those end pieces can be swapped out to attach different watches or trackers, and Smartlet says the process doesn’t require tools.

At launch, there are three versions of the strap. The Classic model uses silver-coloured stainless steel, the Shadow version adds a black finish, and the Titanium edition opts for a satin-grey titanium build.

Prices are US$418 / £311 for the Classic version, US$538 / £399 for the Shadow, and rise to US$718 / £533 for the titanium model, with connectors for specific devices sold separately.

Whether it actually solves the problem or just creates a new major fashion faux pas, is another question entirely. But if you’ve ever wanted to wear a Rolex and track your steps at the same time, the Smartlet One might be the most unusual compromise yet.
