While you wait for GTA 6, Rockstar offers a massive GTA 5 boost for Xbox Series S|X and PS5 gamers

GTA 5 turns 13 in September. It's getting a free upgrade to new gen consoles from today.

As the wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 continues, Rockstar is offering a major score for owners of GTA 5 as it approaches its teenage years. GTA 5 gamers still enjoying the game on PS4 and Xbox One are getting a free upgrade to play on the current-gen games consoles. A nice crumb, perhaps for those becoming exasperated by the wait.

The free update comes as Rockstar prepares a major update for GTA Online. Gamers will be able to enjoy the forthcoming Kortz Center Heist expansion of GTA Online that’ll arrive in July. That’ll enable GTA Online gamers to scope out an art museum and rob the place dry. Gamers will be able to take on solo heists or crew up with others for this “multi-stage Heist infiltrating and escaping the grounds.”

In a blog post today, Rockstar writes: “Beginning tomorrow, those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTAV and GTA Online ahead of the launch of The Kortz Center Heist.

“GTAV and GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S feature vast technical improvements, easy migration of your Story Mode and Online progress, and new features including Hao’s Special Works high-performance vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and much more.”

GTA 6 is scheduled to arrive on PS5, Xbox Series S|X in November. Rockstar has yet to announce a version for PC. It’s without question the most anticipated video game of all time.
