Stupid faces at the ready: Asus ZenFone Selfie boasts a 13MP front camera

Get ready to see details that you really wish were left hidden

Throughout the era of smartphones, cameras have evolved from grainy little novelty additions to a realistic replacement for our compact cameras. And then someone decided to invent the selfie.

Joining the ranks of other 13MP selfie cam-packing phones like the HTC Desire Eye, comes the newly announced Asus Zenphone… Selfie.

It comes with 13MP cameras on both sides, and the rear features a dual-LED flash and laser auto-focus, similar to the one found on the LG G4

The main selling point – the front-facing seflie camera –  also has a dual-LED flash, which should go a long way to ensure that every detail of your face is captured in all its glory, even in dim conditions. From dingy bars to festival tents, the world can be your selfie oyster.

A now-common beautification feature is also available, which uses software to slim down your face, soften your facial features and enhance your skin tone, all in real time.

The camera lens comes with an aperture of f/2.2 with an 88-degree field of view, but thanks to panorama mode, this can be upped to 140 degrees, making it easier to fit in all of your friends.

The 5.5-inch 1080p display (403ppi) is protected by Gorilla Glass 4, and is the same as the screen you’ll find on the Asus ZenFone 2.

It’ll run Asus’ own custom version of Google Android called (very imaginitively), Asus ZenFone UI, which will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor.

Stay tuned for more news about the ZenFone Selfie, include pricing and release dates.
