Sky has announced that it will be broadcasting every crystal-clear blade of grass from the Ryder Cup in high-def when the tournament starts this September.

The 36th tournament from County Kildare in Ireland – which tees off on Friday 22nd September and finishes the following Sunday – will be exclusively live on both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports HD.

It might not generate the excitement of Sky's imminent high-def football offerings, which include the BBC's World Cup and from August the Barclays Premiership, but golf should benefit more than most sports from the extra-sharp treatment.

It's a game of precision, lawns that have been cut by hand with scissors and, most importantly, ridiculous jumpers. Although you may have to wear sunglasses to watch Ian Poulter's gaudy attire, the coverage will let you pick individual matches to follow and give you the option of listening to US commentary.
