PSP breaks sales record

Sony’s PlayStation Portable has become the fastest selling games console in UK history, shifting 185,000 units in the first four days of sale – despite many stores selling out within hours of launch.

The PSP’s biggest rival, Nintendo’s DS, sold just 87,000 in its first week back in March – so it seems Nintendo’s headstart is unlikely to stop the PSP dominating the handheld gaming market.

The official sales figures – released by Chart-Track and reported on the BBC news site – also show that Ridge Racer was the most popular game, with around 20% of PSP purchasers also opting to bag a copy of the arcade classic. We’re big fans of Ridge Racer here at the Stuff office – the wireless multiplayer mode is excellent –  although Virtua Tennis is proving pretty gripping at the moment, too. And Wipeout Pure should be on every self-respecting PSP owner’s shopping list.

So, have you managed to get your hands on the Greatest Gadget on Earth yet? Let us know what you think of it, what’s your favourite game – and whether any of you are using the web browser to view this site. More power to ya!
