It looks like the Nintendogs are winning their scrap with Sony’s Grand Theft Auto gangsters – the DS Lite has announced impressive early sales, and has now got its nose in front of the PSP.
The handheld, launched in Europe on 23rd June, racked up a whopping 200,000 sales in its first ten days. That’s not quite as impressive as the PSP’s four-day sales of 185,000 units, but the combined worldwide figures for both DS consoles have now edged in front of the PSP.
Ninty is claiming that original games like Nintendogs, Animal Crossing: Wild World and Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training are responsible for the success, and Sony has responded to its dearth of light-hearted games by releasing the excellent LocoRoco, which is now number one in the games chart.
The DS Lite’s £100 price point has played a part too, and it’s highly likely that its next step will be some new colours later this year to add to the existing polar white, smart black and noble pink hues. We’ve got our money on the Fire Red and Pearl Blue outfits sported by the Gameboy Advance SP.
