The Huawei Mate 10 has Leica parts and AI smarts

A big ol' battery and a heart of glass, too

Huawei is thinking big with the Mate 10 – and we’re not just talking about that 5.9in screen. The glass-and-metal sandwich is powered by an all-new Kirin 970 CPU, which has a separate AI brain built to absolutely chew through tricky neural network tasks like machine learning and image recognition. Sounds complicated and futuristic, right? You’ll notice the difference when you break out the twin Leica-branded rear cameras, though: the Mate 10 should recognise specific scenes like food, sunsets, selfies and plants almost instantly, tweaking shot settings on the fly to get jaw-droppingly good snaps without diving into manual mode. All this runs on top of Android 8 Oreo and the latest version of Huawei’s EMUI, while a colossal 4000mAh battery should keep you juiced up for up to two days at a time. The €699 Mate 10 isn’t actually heading to the UK – we’ll get the Mate 10 Pro instead, which kicks things up another notch. More on that here.
