Asus’ ZenFone AR does the VR and AR double

It’s the first phone with both Tango AND Daydream tech

If you’re a spec-hound sniffing out bigger numbers and the very latest in tech, Asus’ latest smartphone should have your nostrils all a-quiver. Why? Because not only does it pack a frankly disturbing 8GB of RAM – more than many desktop PCs – but it’s also the first phone to come with two intensely exciting technologies from Google: Daydream and Tango. Tango uses the ZenFone AR’s giant camera module to map the world around you with extreme accuracy – a vital ingredient for all manner of cutting-edge augmented reality stuff – while Daydream (when paired with Google’s snazzy Daydream View headset) represents the next level in mobile-based virtual reality. Even leaving aside these reality-enhancing baubles, the ZenFone AR’s 5.7in AMOLED screen and Snapdragon 821 CPU make it a mobile worth getting truly stoked about. It’s available for about £440 on import, with a UK release hopefully coming soon.
