We’re getting Red Dead Redemption on Netflix before Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives
Red Dead Redemption – the 2010 Wild West open world classic from Rockstar Games – is now available to play for free via Netflix
The iconic Rockstar Games title Red Dead Redemption is now available to play for free for Netflix subscribers. The idea of a AAA console game being available to play via the Netflix video streaming service would have seemed alien just a couple of years ago, but here we are.
With the launch of a remastered version of Rockstar’s 2010 classic western Red Dead Redemption, the game is available now available on iOS and Android mobile devices.
Gamers can pay outright for the open world game from their app repository (it’s $39.99 on the Apple App Store!), while Netflix subscribers can download a special edition of the game and play it for free. This is regardless of which pricing tier they’re on. There are mobile friendly controls, including touchscreen shooting, but there’s also the opportunity to connect to a Bluetooth gamepad for more traditional controls.
They will need to be connected to the internet to play, in order to conform a continued Netflix subscription. The 3GB mobile version also includes the stand-along Undead Nightmare Zombie Expansion Pack. While Netflix is supporting game streaming for titles via smart TV platforms, this one isn’t among them.
The new edition of the game is also available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Windows Central points out that gamers who owned the original Xbox 360 game can upgrade to the remaster for free. You can see a trailer for the remaster below.
While this is great news for Rockstar fans new and old, the wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 continues. That’s just under a year away, with the current release date planned for November 19 2026. Fingers crossed it holds this time.
