The latest Grand Theft Auto 6 delay means release is still over a year away
Rockstar says it needs more time to polish the latest GTA instalment. It is still coming, honest...
Grand Theft Auto 6 is still more than a year away after Rockstar Games announced it was pushing the release of the most anticipated video game of all time back by another six months.
The game would have been dominating fans’ time at this very minute if the original autumn 2025 release window had been adhered to. However, that was shifted to May 2026 (in May 2025) and now back a further six months to November 19 2026 (in November 2026). For gamers who’ve waited since 2013’s GTA 5 for a new instalment, it’s a further blow for which Rockstar has today apologised.
The company cited the need to complete the game to the standards fans have come to expect from the groundbreaking open world title in which players maraud around crime-ridden American cities adding significantly to the crime being committed.
In a statement posted to X, the celebrated developer and publisher wrote: “Hi everyone, Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
GTA 6 sees the series return to one of its more popular locales, the fictional Vice City, which is inspired by Miami, Florida. The balmy setting last appeared in GTA 4, which was set in the 1980s. GTA 6 appears to be set in the present day, judging by the integration of social media within the game’s narrative, as illustrated by trailers.
It appears the game will be focused on a Bonnie & Clyde-like love story between the main anti-heroes named Jason and Lucia. Our brief looks at the game have showcased your average day in south Florida. Police busts, gorgeous purple skies, strip clubs, awful driving, alligators being removed from people’s back yards, and so forth. Hopefully this delay is the last and everyone who celebrates GTA will be able to start lining up around the block (well, pre-downloading to the console in today’s parlance) this time next year,
