We have so many old cassette tapes, here at Stuff Towers, that we use them in a Domino Rally fashion; lining them up and toppling them down. That’s all Fergal Sharky’s Greatest Hits and Now 2 are good for since we all went MP3.

Ion has different ideas. It’s released the Tape 2 PC USB Cassette Archiver, for, uh, transferring tapes onto your PC, either into digital formats or for CD.

It has a dual tape deck, a stereo RCA cable and comes packed with all the recording software you didn’t even realise you needed to stick those old tapes onto iTunes.

Other tricks up the Tape 2 PC USB Cassette Archiver’s very useful sleeve include being able to switch between metal and Cr02 tapes. It also allows you to edit tapes with a built-in dual tape-to-tape feature – should you want to keep it really old school.

Ion is claiming the whole process is easier than falling off logs, what with its simple USB connection and no fiddling around with pesky PC drivers.

Finally, we can email each other our old recordings of ourselves when we were 11, all squeaky voiced and no radio presence.
