Nokia to launch next-gen handset at MWC 2012?

Nokai and Mobile world congress

We've got a fair idea what to expect from MWC this year, but our Nokia radar has been strangely silent. Not any more – according to the latest morsel of online gossip, Nokia will be using its MWC appearance to lift the lid on a handset catering to the high-end side of the smartphone market.

The web gossip – courtesy of Forbes, which got the low-down from an industry source – says Nokia will add at least one high-end smartphone to its current line-up. Apparently, it won't be the 12MP-toting Lumia 910 we heard about a couple of weeks ago. In fact, Nokia's head of Imaging Experience, Damian Dinning, debunked the fabled handset by confirming no such device actually exists.

This is where the information stops. We have no idea if the smartphone in question is Windows Phone-flavoured or of the Nokia Belle variety – or whether it even exists.

With MWC just around the corner, we'll be sure to bring you all the breaking news and juicy rumours as and when we hear 'em.
