Expect the iPhone 5se and iPad Air 3 in stores on 18 March

Latest report claims Apple will release the devices just days after the reveal

Earlier this month, multiple reports claimed that Apple had pinned down an event for 15 March to showcase its latest iOS devices, including a new 4in iPhone. Now we may have a date for when you’ll actually be able to buy them.

And it’s three days later, on 18 March. That’s according to 9to5Mac’s Marc Gurman, a frequent and reliable Apple leaker, who says that the iPhone 5se and iPad Air 3 will both debut on Tuesday the 15th and then be available in stores on Friday the 18th. His sources say that pre-orders are unlikely, although both devices don’t seem like they’ll be as in-demand as Apple’s flagship phones.

The iPhone 5se – also referred to as the iPhone 6c in some reports – will reportedly be Apple’s first new phone with a 4in display since 2013. It’s said to look more akin to the iPhone 6 and come in Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and Space Grey, but have a mix of components previously seen in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.

For example, 9to5Mac claims that the phone will have the A9 and M9 co-processors from the iPhone 6s, but offer the same cameras as the iPhone 6 – and it’ll have Live Photos support, but not a 3D Touch display. It’s said to have an NFC chip for Apple Pay, however, and always-on Siri support.

As for the iPad Air 3, don’t expect a dramatic leap from the iPad Air 2 despite the longer-than-usual wait for an upgrade. It sounds like an A9X chip is likely, along with new cameras and a possible rear flash, and the latest rumours suggest that the Smart Connector from the iPad Pro will make an appearance. If so, expect Apple to have a Smart Keyboard for the iPad Air 3, and perhaps Apple Pencil support as well.

Apple is also expected to showcase an array of new Apple Watch bands, including a Space Black Milanese Loop, new Sport Band colours, and nylon bands, although new Watch hardware isn’t likely until later this year. In any case, if you’re a fan of smaller phones, a more capable iPad, or a Watch band refresh, next month’s releases may be right up your alley.
