Android-powered BlackBerry slider will be called the Priv

We preferred the Venice codename, if we're being honest

It’s no secret that BlackBerry is tinkering away on an Android-running QWERTY slider handset, but until now, we’ve only known it as the BlackBerry Venice.

Serial leaker Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks, has however revealed what appears to be the handset’s final name – the BlackBerry Priv.

Nope, we have no idea what it means either, and yes, we think it’s a pretty stupid name too. It’s certainly nowhere near as classy as Venice, and if true, BlackBerry’s probably making things even harder for itself come launch day.

Still, the actual handset looks very promising, offering genuine stock Android with BlackBerry’s legendary physical keyboard.

We can’t wait to wrap our hands around one for the slider nostaliga alone, and we’re looking forward to its expected November release date.

The handset has been rendered in multiple colours from plain black to purple, red and light blue, though we don’t expect to see anything other than sensible black and white offerings at launch.

Stay tuned for more info, as and when we get it.
