Would you pay US$500 for an automatic beer brewer?

Beer – the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems – can be tricky to make, as those of you who have dipped into the world of home brewing have probably discovered. But there is an easier way.

The PicoBrew is an automatic beer brewing machine that’s designed to remove all the fuss and hassle of making your own home-grown nectar, and it’s not much bigger than a coffee machine.

Similarly to coffee machines like Nespresso, the PicoBrew uses proprietary US$19 ingredient packs called PicoPaks, which are inserted into it. There are over 50 breweries currently available, and users will also be able to create their own recipes and receive a commission from their PicoPak creations being sold online.

The PicoBrew itself takes care of almost everything, brewing the beer in a couple of hours, after which you chuck in a sachet of yeast and wait around a week or so for the process to complete. You can dial the desired alcohol percentage up or down during the brewing process, and each run will net you around five litres of beer.

Its US$500 asking price is not necessarily cheap, but it looks like a much easier, hassle-free solution to trying out different beers at home. Bring on its spring 2016 release date, we say.
