Samsung Galaxy S II treated to Ice Cream Sandwich on March 1?

Could Samsung's flagship Galaxy S II be next in line for an Ice Cream Sandwich injection?

Our peepers aren’t being treated to the highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress, so we’re going to have to wait a little while longer to prod and swipe Samsung’s newest flagship phone – but Android 4.0 on the Galaxy S II should tide us over while we wait.

The Samsung Norway team let slip that the Galaxy S II would be getting an Ice Cream Sandwich update in March, but until now your guess has been as good as ours as to when it would officially arrive. Now, rumour has it that Samsung is going to launch its Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II on March 1.

Blogger and insider extraordinaire Eldar Murtazin – who told the world about the 12MP-toting Nokia Lumia 910 heading to Europe and has a knack for being right about these kinds of things –  is the source of the rumour, following yet another Twitter-based prediction.

However, when the Android 4.0 upgrade rolls out on your handset will depend on what country you reside in and which operator you’re signed up to. But Murtazin is adamant that March 1 is the official launch date for the ICS rollout – a claim that falls in line with Samsung’s original promise to bring Ice Cream Sandwich to its flagship Galaxy S II in the first half of the year.

According to the same source, the Galaxy Note is going to get the ICS treatment between March and May, while a handful of other handsets from the Samsung stable will also be getting facial recognition unlocking, beautiful multi-tasking and everything else that comes hand-in-hand with ICS at a later date.
