Hmm, haven't we seen this new 'Centro' somewhere before? Well, kind of. It's almost identical to the Windows Mobile 500v announced two weeks ago, but with some key differences.
First up, it runs Palm OS – once the darling of portable platforms but now starting to creak. It also has a larger screen – 320x320 pixels, rather than 240x320. And you can resurrect your antique stylus collection because, unlike the 500v, this one is touchscreen.
There have been some noticeable cutbacks. The camera's gone from 2MP to 1.3MP and the Bluetooth chip is the cheaper 1.2 type instead of the speedier 2.0 version.
That probably won't bother the bargain hunters it's aimed at. Palm hasn't got UK release deets yet but the $99 US price tag with a two-year contract is absolute bargainsville for over there so we're expecting it to be cheap as metaphorical chips (99p for a large portion, last time we stopped at the Ocean Fish Bar) when it finally arrives here.
