We know that O2 and Carphone Warehouse have both sold out of their pre–order allocations of the iPhone 3G. But now it’s emerging just how many orders caused O2’s site to go into meltdown yesterday.Stuff reader Adrian Powici has just contacted us with his reply from O2 after complaining about yesterday’s service. In it, the mobile operator says, “Demand for iPhone 3G is staggering…we were experiencing 13,000 orders per second being placed.”That’s a massive number of people trying to get an iPhone. And if the estimates of 500,000 phones being shipped in for Friday’s launch is correct, we could have a sell out on our hands.O2 may have handled this badly, but it looks like both they and Apple will come up smelling of roses come 8:02am on Friday. No white iPhone 3G in UKMobileMe set for launch on 10 July
