Voice of Master Chief: Halo 5 coming in 2015

Voice actor confirms that Master Chief will return next year – but there’s other Halo-related stuff arriving in 2014

If you’re a Halo fan wondering when the next full-on fix of Microsoft’s flagship FPS will arrive, we’ve got some potentially bad news for you: it won’t be until next year.

Halo voice actor Steve Downes has revealed that Halo 5 is currently slated for a 2015 release. And given that he’s the dude who provides Master Chief’s gruff utterances, he probably knows quite a bit about when the game will be finished. So if you’ve just bought an Xbox One and were hoping for an all-new Halo adventure this year, you’re most likely going to be disappointed.

Halo, Goodbye

Halo 2 is getting an Anniversary Edition

Downes did drop a crumb of comfort for die-hard fans though: there’ll be an anniversary edition of Halo 2 dropping in 2014. Yes, that’s right: it’s been ten years since the game arrived on the original Xbox, and to celebrate Microsoft will be delivering a jazzed-up HD remake. So you’ll still get to kick some Covenant backside. Downes didn’t say which consoles that’ll be for, but we’d assume the Xbox One for sure – and most likely the Xbox 360 too.

So, in summary: good news and bad news both for Halo fans.
