LoveFilm’s exclusivity with Sony Pictures brings the fight to Netflix

LoveFilm has announced that Sony Pictures’ catalogue will be exclusive to its online streaming service in June 2012.

Sony Pictures joins Warner Brothers in LoveFilm’s roster and is pitted against Netflix’s grab-bag of exclusive content – which, as previously reported, includes MGM (giving it rights to big hitters like The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey).

The danger of course is that users will need to sign up for both services in order to access silver screen gems from all the big studios, resulting in fragmentation and confusion.

As if that wasn’t enough, both Sony Pictures and MGM are co-producers on the next James Bond flick, Skyfall – raising the question of which service will get streaming rights to 007's upcoming adventure.
