Fujifilm X100T features the world’s first electronic rangefinder

Manual focus advocates will adore the third generation of the X100 for more than its retro looks

Fujifilm has unveiled the X100T, the third generation of its superb X100 compact camera – and it’s the first snapper on the market to offer an electronic rangefinder.

What does that mean exactly? Well, the idea is to make manual focussing as easy as it is on a manual rangefinder camera such as a Leica M. The X100T does this by enlarging the focus area and displaying it in the bottom right of the optical viewfinder. That way, it’s much easier to see if your subject is actually in focus. You can change the level of magnification too.

Other new features include a simulation of Fujifilm’s Classic Chrome film (expect muted tones and deep colours, say Fuji); seven customisable Fn buttons; a sharper, higher resolution screen; an electronic shutter that can shoot as fast as 1/32000 of a second.

There’s a 16.3MP X-Trans CMOS II sensor; sensitivity up to ISO 51200; built-in Wi-Fi which allows you to control the camera from a smartphone, or send images directly to one; and 1080p video at frame rates up to 60fps.

You’ll be able to buy the Fujifilm X100T in the UK from November this year, priced at £1,000. It’ll be available in silver (shown) and black finishes. We’ll endeavour to get our hands on one ASAP to find out how much it improves on its predecessor, the wonderful X100S.
