Minecraft Pocket Edition tunnels into Xperia Play

16 Aug 2011

Minecraft – the ridiculously addictive online world of night monsters, weaponry and a whole lot of fortress building – already has nearly 12 million users. As if it hasn’t consumed enough of our lives enough already, it's now available to play on the go.

Released on the Android Market today, it's available exclusively for the Xperia Play with full support for its gamepad controls. Sadly other mobile gamers may be in for a bit of a wait, but it shouldn't be long before it's doing the rounds on other Android handsets and iOS.

It's not just a portable version of the PC game – developer Mojang claims this version will have exclusive social features but, tragically, no monsters. Mojang claims a more relaxed experience is required for portable devices, though they may make a comeback depending upon consumer feedback.
