We all have stories about how a previous phone didn’t bounce the last time we dropped it, drowned in a cup of tea or just didn’t like it when it got icy on the ski holiday. Slim, stylish phones are great, but their metropolitan disposition means they can really struggle when subjected to the rigours of the great outdoors.

The Land Rover S1 by Sonim, however, is a phone built for the outdoors. It may look like its previous incarnation as the Sonim XP3 Enduro, but it has been upgraded with a 2 Megapixel camera with LED flash (doubling as a torch), along with GPS, FM radio and better dust-proofing as denoted by its new IP67 rating.

On the outside it is near identical, other than the camera and, of course, Land Rover branding, which is actually surprisingly subtle on the phone itself.

We’ve seen one plunged into mud, dunked repeatedly, run over by a Land Rover (Et tu, Brute?) and even jet washed so we can attest to its resilience. Keep an eye out for our video soon.
