As the PlayStation faithful gather in the bowels of Virgin’s Oxford Street Megastore, waiting for midnight to belch the PS3 into their waiting paws, it looks as if the traditional launch day bun fight may not materialise after all. After November’s simultaneous worldwide launch went tits-up, the four-month delay has allowed Sony to stockpile a stash of units in preparation for the European lift-off; meaning a whopping one million consoles will be up for grabs come Friday. It’s reckoned that about a third of them are bound for UK shores – three times the number of 360s and Wiis that found their way here for their respective launches. In fact, venture off the high street and into your friendly local independent games shop and you may avoid the scrum completely. Many are boasting of ‘generous’ stocks and have been offered more PS3s than they can afford to buy in.So if for some reason you haven’t pre-ordered, don’t panic. Pop down to Davey’s Gaming Grotto, have a word in his shell-like and take it from there.
