Samsung’s smart glasses could land sooner than you think

The Samsung Galaxy Glasses could be on your face later this year

Most of us have already invested in staple tech like the best headphones, but smart glasses like the Ray-Ban Meta (pictured above) remain less popular, used mostly by enthusiasts rather than hitting mainstream use. That could soon change, with the rumoured release of the Samsung Galaxy Glasses.

According to a report from SamMobile,  the Galaxy Glasses could land with a 12MP camera setup, along with built-in microphones for hands-free snaps and video recording shenanigans. They’ll also reportedly have speakers for letting you take calls and listen to music while still being aware of your surroundings.

The report also reckons Samsung’s smart glasses could land with a 245mAh battery. That doesn’t sound like much compared to the figures we see in smartphones, but in the smart glasses category, it’s reasonable.

I use Ray-Ban’s smart glasses myself, and the battery life is decent enough to provide hours’ worth of snaps and videos in between charges, so if the reports are true, we could expect similar results from Samsung’s offering.

As for what Samsung’s smart glasses will look like? Well, the leaks suggest sunglasses in multiple styles and colours, with confirmed partnerships involving Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

Under the hood, the Samsung smart glasses are tipped to be running Android XR, with Gemini handling AI duties. That likely means the usual mix of real-time assistance, contextual info, and camera-led features.

There’s no confirmed launch date yet, and these are all still rumours for the time being. But if everything turns out to be true, Samsung will beat Apple’s rumoured smart glasses to the punch, given their rumoured 2027 release date.

If any companies have a better chance than most at helping smart specs go mainstream, it’s Apple and Samsung. It would certainly make for an interesting battle in the smart glasses arena. Watch this space.
