Samsung’s next foldable could finally fix one major issue

A bigger battery and faster charging could make the Galaxy Z Fold 8 a much easier sell

Samsung’s next folding phone – the Galaxy Z Fold 8 – could finally be getting a few major upgrades where it counts.

According to Greek publication TechManiacs, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 could pack a 5000mAh battery, up from the 4400mAh capacity Samsung’s recent Fold models have largely stuck with. The same leak also claims Samsung is finally bumping charging speeds up from 25W to 45W – a rumour we’ve heard before.

The report also claims that the Fold 8 will slim down to around 4.1mm when unfolded, while weighing roughly 210g. That’d make it slightly thinner and lighter than the current generation despite the larger battery.

Elsewhere, the Fold 8 is tipped to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, while the ultrawide camera could reportedly jump from 12MP to 50MP. The main camera is expected to remain a 200MP sensor.

TechManiacs also claims that Samsung is preparing a second foldable, currently referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. We still don’t know the final name, but previous renders suggest it could feature a noticeably wider inner display.

The leaked specs point to a dual-camera setup consisting of a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide, along with a 4800mAh battery and 45W charging. The Wide model is also tipped to weigh around 200g, with reports suggesting a 7.6-inch internal display using a 4:3-style aspect ratio.

Nothing here is official yet, so the usual rumour caveats apply. But if Samsung really is pairing a bigger battery with faster charging and a thinner design, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could end up being one of the most meaningful Fold upgrades in quite a while. We expect more will be revealed at Samsung’s launch event on 22 July in London, so stay tuned.
