Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 could finally fix one annoying problem

After years of playing it safe, Samsung’s next foldable might finally catch up in the battery department

If you’re thinking about buying one of the best foldable phones, chances are the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is on your radar. And, if the most recent rumours are true, it could land with a better battery experience.

According to new certification filings submitted to China’s CCC regulatory agency (via SammyGuru), the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 could support 45W wired fast charging – a significant jump from the 25W speeds Samsung has stuck with since the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

If true, it would mark the first meaningful upgrade to charging speeds on Samsung’s book-style foldables in more than five years.

Samsung is also expected to equip the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with a larger battery, which, combined with faster charging, would be a welcome improvement.

The upgrade would bring the Fold line closer in line with some of Samsung’s other premium devices that already support faster charging, though it’ll still fall short of the faster charging speeds offered by the likes of Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, Honor, and more.

Unfortunately, the same battery upgrade doesn’t appear to be coming to the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Certification listings suggest Samsung will stick with 25W charging on its clamshell foldable, at least for another generation.

As for when we can expect the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to land, Samsung is expected to unveil it in the second half of the year, if past launch cycles are anything to go by.

As always with leaks and rumours, nothing here is confirmed until Samsung makes it official. But if this one sticks, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could finally address one of the longest-standing limitations of Samsung’s foldables.
