On to the web service. Sony has announced that The PlayStation Network will allow PS3 owners to chat with each other (à la Xbox Live), download extras and browse the web. Basic membership to the service will be free but PS3 lovers will have to pay to download extra content, games and the like. Downloading a game is expected to cost around £10. Frag-mentalists The PlayStation Network UI is based on Sony’s delightfully intuitive PSP, so navigation is a cinch. There’s a Friends area, much like Xbox Live, where users can find online gaming buddies to frag senseless and send text messages to one another. The near-ubiquitous Opera browser makes yet another appearance in the PS3, although this is a bespoke version. Launch titles will cost around $60 in the US, although we can expect a hefty premium to be added to our titles when they arrive here six months later.
