Nokia could sell off luxury Vertu brand for €200 million

The Finnish mobile giant could soon be rid of its precious metal and diamond-clad range of ultra-expensive fashion phones

If you’ve been holding out for a platinum-clad Windows smartphone slathered in all manner of shiny rarities and diamonds then it looks like you’re out of luck, as Nokia could be selling off its Vertu brand at long last.

The latest whisperings from the Financial Times point to private equity group Permira planning to snap up the Vertu brand for a cool €200 million, placing it alongside the firm’s other luxury holdings which include Hugo Boss.

We can’t say that we blame Nokia for wanting to trim the fat and focus on its more viable Windows Phone series handsets, though the Vertu brand should still be sticking around after the change of hands – good new then, for those of you looking for a £200,000 handset with access to a 24 hour concierge service.
