Nook Tablet announced by Barnes & Noble

Sure, the Nook Colour is pretty much the same – but at this price Amazon needs to worry

The Nook Tablet, the improved version of Barnes & Noble’s Nook Colour, has just been announced – and B&N has the Amazon Kindle Fire in its sights.

Granted, this battle of the tablets is confined to the other side of the pond for the time being, with no sign of the Nook Tablet or the Amazon Kindle Fire coming to the UK anytime soon.

But let’s enjoy the specs, shall we? The Nook Tablet is rocking a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB onboard memory with microSD expansion, 11.5 hours of battery life and a 7in IPS display with lamination for minimal glare while playing those 1080p videos. And videos there shall be, with both Netflix and Hulu onboard for the launch. All that and it’s only US$250 when on sale next week.

We’re hoping this next generation of low-priced, high-spec tablets will hit the UK in 2012. With recent Netflix UK launch murmurings and talk of the Nook launching with Marvel Comics onboard, we’re more eager than ever.

It’s that or wait for the iPad 3‘s 2048×1536 resolution display in September.
