New Moto G retail listing suggests a 1080p screen for the budget refresh

If true, surely this means the flagship Moto X is getting a resolution upgrade too

Motorola and its partners haven’t exactly kept the lid shut on details for the still-unannounced third-generation Moto G, as we’ve heard all manner of leaks over the past couple months. And the latest leak suggests notable upgrades are coming.

Digitec, a Swiss retailer, has listed the handset ahead of its official reveal, with some very official-looking renders showing another great look at the upcoming smartphone. But it’s the listed specs that really share new details, if they’re to be believed.

Most notably, the specs list the 5in display receiving a resolution bump to 1080p, which will be a nice and noticeable enhancement over the 720p screen of last year’s model. However, that’s a new detail that hasn’t been seen in previous leaks, so it’s unclear whether that’s a mistake or (hopefully) just a fresh revelation that hadn’t snuck out previously.

The listing also notes double the RAM of the previous model, at 2GB, along with LTE support right out of the gate; the previous models each started with 3G, but had a later revision with LTE available. All of these upgrades could come with a slight price bump, however, as the listed price of CHF 235 comes out to almost £160.

If the budget Moto G is bumping up to 1080p, then Motorola’s refreshed Moto X flagship will certainly move from 1080p to something even crisper. Luckily, that matches up well with earlier rumours, which say the new Moto X will have a Quad HD display like that of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait for long to find out on either front. Motorola has an event going down next week, and we’ll be covering the action right from the source. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
