Microsoft has announced it will be releasing a security update which should protect Internet Explorer 6 users from the attacks which caused France and Germany to warn web users against using the browser.

Set to be released around 6pm GMT, the update also includes fixes for other vulnerabilities not currently under attack.

Microsoft is recommending users to install the update as soon as its available, but moreso encouraging them to update to Internet Explorer 8 due to its "improved security protection".

It's a free to update to IE8, so if you haven't already, it may be best to bypass the security fix altogether and head straight for the full update.

Of course, there are plenty of browsers out there for you to try, so why not check out our guide to alternatives to Internet Explorer and see how they compare to your IE experience.
