The 5.5in HTC One E9+ is actually a real thing
2K screen, 20MP camera and BoomSound speakers, all packed into a shiny plastic body

Not content with releasing its gorgeous metal-clad One M9, HTC has quietly lifted the curtains off a new phablet, the One E9+.
Leaked online over the past few weeks, the latest handset to join HTC’s roster is a bit of an odd one. It’s got a 5.5in 2K QHD display, out-sizing and out-pixelling the One M9’s 5in 1080p screen.
While it also shares the same front-facing BoomSound speakers, rear 20MP camera and front-facing UltraPixel snapper, it’s all wrapped up in a plastic body.
With 3GB of RAM and an octa-core MediaTek processor running the show, it’s a little odd to see flagship specs packed into a non-premium shell. We imagine it’s part of HTC’s efforts to keep the overall costs down for the Chinese market – which is currently where the One E9+ will be available.
Confusingly, HTC’s own spec list for the device lists 2GB of RAM, a 1080P screen and a 13MP camera, although Engadget points out that this could be referring to a standard E9 model.
As for us UK gadgeteers? We’ll have to make do with the lovely and premium HTC One M9. We’re sure we’ll manage somehow.
