Screen-free Camp Snap 2 camera takes digital photography back to basics – and at a bargain price
This point-and-shoot looks disposable but its old-school charms could make it quite the opposite
What do you call a disposable camera that you can reuse? Er, just a camera. Or in the case of this reusable disposable, the Camp Snap 2.
While it looks like something you’d send off to Quicky Pix to be developed once you’d fired off your 30-odd photos, the Camp Snap 2 actually takes SD cards for you to fill with its 8MP photos. There’s no screen on the back, though, so you’ll have to frame them the old-fashioned way using the optical viewfinder.
So far, so point-and-shoot, but it also has a button that lets you select one of five built-in filters: analogue, black and white, and three separate vintage looks. No post-production required.
If you’d rather achieve that the old-fashioned way as well, you can screw actual 30.5mm filters to the lens – try doing that with a throwaway snapper.
Even without a filter the pics you’ll get from the Camp Snap 2 are still somewhat reminiscent of an old disposable, which will either make it a bit rubbish or irresistibly nostalgic, depending on your outlook.
The Camp Snap 2 has a 4GB card pre-installed, which should hold about 2000 photos, but it’ll happily house capacities up to 64GB so you can keep shooting for longer. If you want to hand it to one of your sprogs, you can lock all the buttons except for the shutter release so they can’t muck around with the settings.
The camera comes in nine colours, including the four snazzy translucent ones seen above, and some more traditional, less eye-catching hues. And the price? An almost disposable $70/£54. But just think of the money you’ll save on getting your pics developed.
