GoPro beyond the Hero? New footage offers tease of next-gen cameras
GoPro is rumoured to be looking beyond action cams by launching a compact cinema camera. Is this the first football from the new range?
GoPro has released footage captured on an unreleased next-generation camera, which suggests the company might be branching out beyond its traditional Hero range of action cameras.
In a video published to YouTube, the company shows video much different to what we expect to see captured by traditional GoPro line of cameras.
For example, there’s a slow motion video of a fire roaring, close-ups of the human eye and the moon, and a macro image of raindrops dripping from a fir tree. None of that looks like it was shot with a Hero cam. Check it out below and see for yourself.
So what could we see a little more diversification from the iconic brand? It certainly seems so. The company has previously dropped hints about a compact cinema camera, a 360 degree cameras, and a camera geared towards vlogging.
Those hints came earlier this month when GoPro announced the next-generation GP3 processor, which it said promised new image quality standards in low-light conditions, as well as rumtimes and thermal performance boosts.
“These advancements position GP3 to usher in a new era of professional-level image quality, low-light performance, resolution and frame rates for small form-factor camera markets, including action cameras, 360 cameras, vlogging cameras, and ultra-premium, compact cinema-grade cameras,” the company said at the time.
The footage teased today suggests that compact cinema camera might be the first in line. We’re also expecting the Hero 14 to arrive too, but GoPro has yet to announce a launch event. We’re excited to see what GoPro has in store.
