Fully Charged: Star Wars holograms, Connect 4 on the 5c, and the Xbox One’s Facebook

Infuse your commute with some gadget love

Created by two ex-Valve employees we’d bet know a thing or two about gaming, castAR promises to put holographic 3D images right in front of your eyes.

‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope sparked our imaginations of what might be possible in the future by showing R2-D2 and Chewbacca playing a holographic 3D chess-style game,’ say Jeri Ellsworth and Rick Johnson.

‘It has taken nearly 35 years since the film was released for this technological dream to come to reality, but with castAR, that reality can be yours,’ they reckon – if they can raise $400,000.

However, after a day they are well over $200,000, so we think they may well be onto something

Phone home: Asus’s ET touchscreen

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dXIU0zKuD8

With a product name that’s out of this world, Asus has unveiled the ET2321, a fully featured Windows 8 all in one touchscreen.

It boasts a 23-inch 1,920 x 1,080 IPS display with a 178-degree viewing angle, Windows 8 as the software, SonicMaster audio tech through the built-in speakers, and 802.11ac WiFi.

However, Asus makes much of its sleek design (which bears more than a passing resemblance to a certain Apple all in one), claiming it is based on ‘a work of art’.

A fourth-generation Intel CPU with options of NVIDIA 740M or Iris graphics give the machine its power – although there’s no word on pricing yet.

Xbox One makes friends

Microsoft seems to have taken a leaf from Facebook’s, erm, book for its new Xbox One friends app. Revealed in an online video by Major Nelson, the YouTube clip is the first glimpse of the One’s new social gaming features.

You can also have 1,000 friends and infinite followers now, and the Xbox One will subsequently allow people to search your gamertag and follow you too.

Once you’ve added your online pals (and celebs, obviously), you’ll share your latest game scores, achievements and even in game videos you record.

There’s also an activity feed (not unlike Facebook’s news feed) which should let you jump in your friends games as they start playing.

Appy days: Connect 4 makes Apple’s 5c case interactive

Apple’s iPhone 5c case has come in for a bit of stick online due to its holey nature, but one enterprising app maker have found the perfect way to make use of it – as a connect 4 game.

The flipcase app lets you turn the case round and play a quick game of the iconic game. ‘Play games using the case of your iPhone 5c’, Bytesize, the firm behind it boasts – and we think it’ll be the first of many to take advantage of Apple’s design.
