Say hello to the £70 Pepsi smartphone

Yes, really

Remember when we wrote about a rumour surrounding a Pepsi-branded smartphone, complete with a Pepsi-themed Android skin? Well, here it is.

The Pepsi Phone P1, to give it its full name, will initially launch in China for around £70 (700 yuan) on JD Finance, which is China’s version of Kickstarter.

Specs-wise, we’re looking at a 5.5in 1080p screen, an octa-core MediaTek processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 13MP camera.

Nothing ground-breaking then, but for that price point, it’s actually not bad at all, although currency conversion isn’t the most accurate way to determine international pricing.

As for why Pepsi wants its own branded smartphone? Well… we have no idea. Nor do we know if it’ll ever hit the UK, but if you want to get your Pepsi tech fix in the meantime, there’s always Pepsi Man:
