Samsung launches Omnia W

The Omnia 7's successor get the Windows Phone Mango treatment

We’ve been hearing more and more about our old friend Windows lately – from our preview of Windows 8 to rumours of modular Windows Phone handsets in the pipeline from Microsoft. And now we’ve got some hardware to run the latest mobile OS, Windows Phone Mango. Samsung announced that the leaner, meaner Omnia W will replace the WP7 Omnia 7 when it launches in Italy next month – and hopefully over here soon after.

The Omnia W will sport a smaller, 3.7in Super AMOLED display but this means it’s dropped some pounds too, now weighing in at just 115g. Inside, there’s a beefier 1.4Ghz single-core processor and as well as the new features of Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango), Samsung has thrown in a video conferencing app and eBook reader. If that sounds like your cup of smartphone, we’ll keep you updated with UK pricing and availability when Sammy spills the details.
