UPDATED: Asus unveils PadFone 2
The dust has barely settled on our Asus Padfone review, but Asus has wasted no time in showing off its successor – the Asus PadFone 2 – at a launch event in Taiwan.
The Asus PadFone 2 handset arrives packing a 4.7in 720p Super IPS+ display with 550 nits of brightness, along with a quad-core Qualcomm processor, and either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of onboard memory – all powered by a 2140mAh battery.
You also get a 13MP camera that'll shoot 30fps 1080p video or 60fps 720p video, along with a 1.2MP front snapper. LTE support and NFC round out the specs list.
Of course, the real story with the PadFone 2 is its new PadFone Station – and it's a definite improvement, doing away with the clunky, bulky dock cover that we complained about in our video review of the original PadFone. That's helped to get the weight down from 854g to a mere 649g, despite the PadFone Station sporting the same 10.1in screen as the original.

UPDATE: We've just learned that availability for the Asus PadFone 2 will be early 2013. And bad news for those who want the PadFone's physical keyboard dock and stylus – they won't be available for the PadFone 2.
