Folding Mu plug launches in the UK
Although we’ve always been very proud of the sturdy three-pin UK plug, its bulky size has become more and more apparent as our gadgets have continued to shed the pounds. South Korean designer Min-Kyu Choi has decided to rectify this with the launch of the Mu folding plug.
Measuring in at a slim 1cm (compared to the standard 4.5cm), the Mu folding plug’s design allows the two bottom live and neutral power pins to rotate by 90 degrees, allowing the plug’s body to fold in half. Genius.
Although initially only available for a hefty £25 from the mu store or London’s Deign Museum, we’re hoping the price will plummet after the design becomes more widespread and hopefully standardised.
USB-powered tech will only work for now thanks to the Mu plug’s single USB port, but given that everything from phones to cameras can suck up juice via USB, it should be more than enough to satisfy power-hungry gadgeteers for the time being.
