Sony slashes PS3 price and intros new PSP

Sony has slashed the price of the PlayStation 3 worldwide, detailed the launch of PlayStation 3D Display, and revealed the social media features of the PlayStation Vita.
And, to cap it off, unveiled a brand new PSP.

With immediate effect the price of the 320Gb PlayStation 3 has been slashed to €250. Although the UK pricing wasn’t confirmed in the announcement it appears that this will bring the price down to about £215 for the 320Gb model and £195 for the 160Gb. EDIT: UK pricing is £200 for 160GB or £250 for 320GB.
Sony also used its presentation at Gamescom to announce that the PlayStation Vita’s suite of social media features will include the ability to connect with Facebook, Twitter and Skype.

The next-generation handheld console, which will be available in Wi-Fi and 3G models, will also offer an internet browser and voice-and-text chat with multiple people.
Sony also announced that its low cost 3DTV set up – the PlayStation 3D Display – will be launched in the UK this autumn and will cost €500 including two sets of 3D glasses. The 24in display is geared towards gaming and also features technology that allows two players to see completely separate images on the same screen.

Sony also announced a brand new PSP model, the E-1000, that will cost €100 and launch before Christmas. Sony described the revamped console, which doesn’t offer Wi-Fi connectivity, as an “entry level handheld.”

Several new Vita games were announced as well including a version of Assassin’s Creed, a new addition to Sony’s first-person shooter series – Resistance: Burning Skies – and an augmented reality fighting game called Reality Fighters that uses the Vita’s cameras to turn the world around the player into the arena.

seems a lot of price dropping. i just picked up a 3DS for £120. i am well chuffed. but having said that a psp for £100 is mental. it seems there is a great price war on again. and the only winners will be the public getting a bargain.
whatever you get you will have great entertainment and a smart device. having had a psp, they are aweseome.
shame no 3D psp. maybe next year eh sony.

Perhaps, but as an entry level handset, does it really matter? Obviously this defeats the idea of downloading games straight to the device but perhaps they will try their hand with UMD again? Wifi should of been added but all you can really do is use Skype and a basic web browser, seems a good decision in my opinion (also a good response to the 3DS price slashes)
